Without doing the waterproofing, it is not advisable to proceed with the painting job because in the long run, the paints peel off the wall. Wall Dampness:

Wall Dampness is one of the major reasons for paint peel offs, because the paint ingredients do not debond in presence of moisture. Therefore, it is necessary to repair the dampness before beginning the painting job. Some of the major reasons of wall dampness are
(a) Due to external moisture penetration through cladding/joints/plaster
(b) Due to water pipe leakage hidden in the wall
(c) Due to water seepage through top roof parapet wall / gutters / water bodies

Rising Water Dampness:

Water rising in the walls from the bottom of the floor is called as Rising water dampness. Depending on the proximity of the location to some water retaining structures near about, the rising dampness can be very serious and will never rest. Some of the major reasons of rising dampness are
(a) The DPC layer of the plinth has failed or broken
(b) External waterproofing on the underground walls not done
(c) Water ingress from a neighbouring source of water through soil

Flooring Leakages :

At any floor level, water can seep through the following ways
(a) Cracks in the floor
(b) Inlet & outlets of electrical & plumbing installations
(c) Non-effective waterproofing treatment on the top
(d) Inadequate slope on the floor leading to ponding of water. Sometimes it is very difficult to detect the source of leakage, as water travels inside the floor and comes out from a much unexpected place. However, with new sensors, it is possible to find out the correct spot to be treated.

Bathroom Leakages :

Molds are a result of bacteria & fungus breeding in presence of moisture, thus blackening the painted walls and making them look ugly. Once a proper waterproofing technique is done to get rid of the moisture dampness, molds automatically disappear.

External Wall molds :

Some of the major reasons for bathroom leakages are
(a) Leakage in the concealed plumbing or sewage system.
(b) Leakage through the drains & nahani traps.
(c) Leakages in lieu of growing plants & roots externally
(d) Leakages through joints in the tiles
